Privacy Policy

Cornfield Law LLP understands that personal data must be kept confidential. By this we mean information about you which might allow you to be identified. We might collect your contact details when you use our website such as your names and email address. We might use these details to respond to your enquiry or for the purposes of carrying out work if you instruct us, but not for any other purpose.

If you instruct us to do work on your behalf we will collect information from you including personal data which we require to ensure we comply with our legal obligation to check your identity and to prevent fraud. All personal data is stored and used in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. We will retain your personal data for as long as you instruct us and once your matter is completed, then your paper file and the data will be destroyed in accordance with our storage policy, which is to retain files for 6 years only.

We use your personal data to contact you and to carry out the work you have instructed us to do. We will contact you to provide you with information or services you have requested. We might use your data to search the electoral role or the files of credit reference agencies if necessary. We understand the agencies record credit searches on your credit file. This is all done to ensure we comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell or share your personal data with any third party except as necessary and in accordance with your instructions to carry out the work we have been instructed to do, or as required by law.

You have the right to access information held about you. If you require a copy of some or all of your personal data please write by email to info@cornfieldlaw.co.uk or to Cornfield Law LLP 47 Cornfield Road Eastbourne East Sussex BN21 4QN. Any request might be subject to a fee to meet our costs in retrieving your data.

If you consider any of your personal data is inaccurate or not up to date then please advise us with details of the necessary changes and you may also ask us to remove information which is inaccurate. You have a right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you think there is a problem with the way we are handling your data.

Diversity Data

 

Cornfield Law LLP is a small business with fewer than 30 members of staff. To ensure everyone's privicy is protected the data that we publish is for the practice as a whole and is not all the data collected. The majority of staff completed the 2023 Diversity Questionnaire. More than 50% of staff are at least 45 years old, female and white British. Up to 50% of those who responded advised they hold religious beliefs. Most staff attended non-selective state schools and a high proportion of those advised their parents did not attend university. The majority of staff advised that their parents were employed in a variety of jobs, from professional to clerical and manual.
